    A Message from Ms. Coyle

Dear Mare Island Health and Fitness Academy Families,

    Welcome Back!

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged, and ready to start a new school year. I look forward to working with you and your children as we begin.

Our staff is preparing for a productive school year. Teachers are planning and preparing their classrooms for your child(ren). Our office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials, and updating student files. And our hard working custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the buildings. Our much appreciated PTSA is  gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer exciting events and programs. Everyone is anticipating a great year with common goals in promoting high-level learning.

    New Staff

Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our staff. Mr. HIll is our new resource teacher. Ms. Pringle 6th grade, Ms. Kemp 5th grade, Ms. Stearman 4th grade, Mr. Stathis 4th/5th combo and Ms. Fogerty Activity Assistant. Mr. Orlando, our visual and performing arts coordinator/teacher  will be returning in an expanded role. He has some exciting new programs to add. Every one of our students K-8 will have one hour a week of visual art and we will have a pilot program in dance and music.

    Student placement

A great deal of time, effort, and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2018-2019 school year. Our teachers gave careful consideration to balance classes academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.

Thank you all for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. MIHFA is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life.

I too look forward to greeting students and families again. I am pleased to serve as principal of Mare Island Health and Fitness Academy. I encourage you to stop by and say hello. Together, we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all.

    Ms. Coyle
